The Burlington Ontario Health Team is thrilled to share that nominations for the first annual Porter Award for Healthcare Excellence have opened.
The Porter Award for Healthcare Excellence will be awarded to one eligible individual, department, interprofessional/interorganizational care team or organization that demonstrates a commitment to system-wide change in the healthcare field. The award winner must serve the Burlington, Ontario community.
The Porter Award for Healthcare Excellence honours the memory of Ron Porter, a patient advisor for the Burlington Ontario Health Team who passed away in May 2024 following complications from lung transplant surgery.
Ron was a member of our Community Wellness Council and played an integral role in many other initiatives here at the BOHT.
Ron was a steadfast advocate for patients, a committed volunteer, and a champion of the “customer first” approach. At the BOHT, we looked up to Ron as a mentor and a guide whose unwavering dedication inspired each one of us.
Ron’s work to ensure people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease receive the care they need will change countless lives.
This is a great loss for everyone who knew him, but the impact of Ron’s advocacy will continue to be felt now and in the future.
This award was created to honour Ron’s legacy and his contributions to the BOHT.
To honour Ron’s commitment to system-level thinking, collaboration and customer service applicants demonstrating work in these areas will be prioritized.
